Do workouts have anything to do with skin problems?

The general rule is: if you want to stay healthy, you need to work out. Physical exercise has a multitude of benefits to offer, including renewed levels of energy, the release of happiness hormones within the brain and more restful sleep. However, regarding the skin, regular workouts can lead to some problems. Keep on reading to discover the connection between intense physical exercise and skin problems. You will also be presented with solutions on how to handle such problems so that you can continue to engage in workouts without worry.

#1 Acne

If you are predisposed to acne, there are a couple of things you need to be on the lookout for. For example, no matter how tempting it might be, you should avoid wiping your face with your hands, as you will bring a lot of bacteria into the area. Second, there will be a lot of sweating, so it is recommended to have a clean towel, which you will use only on your face. After the workout, wash your face with a gentle cleanser, to keep the risk of acne breakouts down to a minimum. Avoid using hair products, as these will drip on your face, favoring the appearance of acne.

#2 Wrinkles

When you are working out, it is only normal that things will get intense, causing all sort of movements at the level of your face. However, if you are worried about facial wrinkles, you should refrain from such movements. Keep in mind that any unnecessary movement will only cause those expression lines to become more obvious, in time, turning into actual wrinkles. If you want to look young for as long as it is possible, avoid such facial expressions.

#3 Infection

Whether you are a heavy sweater or not, the risk of infection is still there, especially when you are using the same gym clothes for a prolonged period (without washing them). Both bacteria and fungi thrive in humid conditions, so you need to shower and change your clothes immediately after the workout. You might want to avoid sharing objects of personal hygiene, such as towels, with other people, as this is one of the easiest ways to transmit a fungal infection.

#4 Blisters

When you start your workout in a new pair of shoes, it is only normal you are extremely product of yourself. However, our feet require a period of adaptation to the new shoes and blisters might occur more often than expected. Blisters are more common in those who do not wear socks inside the shoes, so make sure to keep that in mind. It is for the best to wear moisture-absorbing socks, as this will not only offer protection against blisters but also keep the risk of fungal infection down to a minim (fungus thrives in humid and warm environments, such as the inside of the shoes).

#5 Signs of tiredness

Even though physical exercise can provide you with energy, not the same thing can be said when it comes to excessive or prolonged training. We are humans, and we get tired; when we exaggerate with working out, the signs of tiredness are bound to show, in the form of puffiness, dark circles and under-eye bags (often made worse by the lack of sleep). #6 Itchiness

Each physical exercise generates some changes in our bodies. The heart works to pump more blood, providing us with energy to move our body parts. Intense physical exercise presents a high risk of chafing, without any doubt. This is the reason why it is recommended to use clothes that are specially made for physical training, as these can absorb excess moisture and prevent chafing. If you insist on wearing clothes that are made from cotton or items that are too loose for training, the combination of excess moisture and constant friction will lead to chafing, without any doubt. The investment in suitable clothes will be worth it on a long-term basis.
